Logroño es capital de la Comunidad Autónoma de La Rioja. [España]. El último Padrón cuantifica sus habitantes en torno a 140.000. Está situada en la margen derecha del río Ebro. En su curso medio-alto.
El nombre de Lucronio aparece en textos del año 956. Pero es desde mediados del siglo XI, después de que se va configurando el "Camino de Santiago", cuando empieza a destacar como villa, como es reconocido por los reyes y en concreto en el Fuero de Logroño de 1095.

Entre el siglo XII y XV se fue formando un núcleo urbano paralelo al Ebro típico de una "ciudad del Camino". Según el "Padrón de la Moneda Forada de 1454" un 83% de sus 711 vecinos se dedican a la agricultura, un 11% a la artesanía y el resto al sector terciario.

El inicio del despegue urbano se sitúa hacia finales del siglo XV, conviertiéndose en ciudad (título de Juan II de Castilla en 1444 con derecho a enviar Procuradores a Cortes de Castilla) defensiva frente a Navarra y todo el norte, destacando su papel en la invasión que en 1521 hizo el Rey de Francia Francisco I; así como en la represión de las conducta heterodoxas, por su Tribunal de la Inquisición creado en 1570.

Y en esta situación permanece hasta 1833, cuando, previo el ensayo de los dos años del Trienio Liberal, Logroño se convierte en capital de provincia, pasando lentamente a ser la ciudad más destacada de La Rioja. Su crecimiento demográfico y económico fue, sin embargo, tan lento, que hasta los años treinta del siglo XX no superó los treinta mil habitantes.

Hoy [2007] es el centro económico, político y administrativo principal de la región.
