3.1. Analysis Scope
The scope of the analysis is controlled by the two first files of components in the analyser.
The analysis scope defines the pages to be analysed:
- The address of the Web page to be analysed has to be introduced at the URL text box. If the page is a local file, then you can use the
button, located at the right to access the file browsing window. The file to be analysed will be selected from the file browser.
- Then, the browsing parameters can be indicated: links typology, depth level and maximum number of Web pages to analyse.
- The link typology allows to select the links to be processed during the analysis of the site, that is, the relation between a set of pages analysed. The typology is selected through the Links to follow option. Its values can be:
-
None: None of the main page links will be analysed. The analysis will be performed only on the main page.
-
Directory: Only the links from the same domain, those that are in the same directory or in a subdirectory, will be analysed. E.g.: If the URL is www.my_website.com/my_directory, the links pertaining to www.my_website.com/my_directory or to a subdirectory such as www.my_website.com/my_directory/my_subdirectory, will be analysed.
-
Domain: All links that share the same domain that the initial URL will be analysed. If we are analysing www.my_website.com, all links that start with www.my_website.com will be analysed (without including the rest of links found).
- Subdomain: All links that share the same domain or subdomain that the initial URL will be analysed. If we are analysing www.my_website.com, all links pertianing to domain (www.my_website.com) or to subdomain (subdomain.my_website.com) will be analysed.
-
All: All links found in the pages will be analysed. This option is not recommended, only if you know the web site to be analysed and you know the tree browsing that the application will follow.
- Depth level: At the Links to follow option, the depth level of the analysis is limited from the initial URL. The value to be introduced will be the number of levels to analyse. E.g: With the value 0 it will be analysed only the page indicated at the URL text box. With value 1, the main page and all pages linked from the initial page will be analysed. With value 2, the main page, the pages linked from the main page and links from these pages, will be analysed. With value 3, web pages with value 2 and web pages linked from the last level, will be analysed, and so on for the values introduced.
- Pages to analyse: Through the Pages to analyse option, the maximum number of pages to analyse will be indicated. Once the analyser reaches that number, it will stop automatically. If value 0 is introduced, then the number of pages to be analysed will not be limited.
- Once the analysis parameters are introduced, the analyser can be run by clicking the Start button.
If the connection with the main page is not possible, the application will show a warning.
During the analysis of various pages, the web pages with connection problems will be added to a list of pages not analysed, that it could be view through the option Pages not analysed, located at the bottom right of the Summary tab.
